The executive, Harold Lewis, also formerly served as president for Nationscredit for Bank of America/Barnett Bank, and was the COO of residential real estate at Fannie Mae and Citigroup's housing finance unit at different periods in his career. He also was formerly the COO at Resource Bancshares Mortgage Group. Most recently, Lewis worked as a senior advisor for consultancy McKinsey & Co. and was CEO for fintech Renovate America. Lewis currently sits on the board of Upbound, an infrastructure software provider that does business at Rent-a-Center and Acima. He serves on its audit and compensation committee.
Lewis' mix of experience heading up mortgage operations and with more recent technological developments matches BSI's need for an executive to oversee servicing work done on its proprietary, cloud-based platform, which utilizes artificial intelligence to manage workflow. BSI also has a subsidiary called Bizzy Labs, which sells regtech on a software as a service basis to other servicers and investors.
"As we scale BSI in these changing times for our industry, Harold's leadership and expertise will ensure that we deliver a best-in-class customer experience while minimizing risk," said CEO Gagan Sharma, in a press release.
During his time at Nationstar, Lewis oversaw significant growth of the company's servicing platform as it expanded from $30 billion to $400 billion in size.
BSI also has appointed Brett Behrens to head of agency servicing. Prior to joining BSI as senior vice president and head of non-agency servicing in 2021, Behrens was a business development executive with Aspen Capital, a private equity firm that serviced and acquired loans on residential and commercial properties.
Behrens also previously held management positions at Calmco Servicing, Wealthbridge Mortgage Corp., FCI Lender Services and Wilshire Credit Corp., a predecessor to IBM servicing platform Seterus.
