Broker Action Coalition taps new leader in transition

The Broker Action Coalition is reshaping its leadership team, with CEO Katie Sweeney transitioning to a board advisor role.

Rachel Clark, the organization's former director of advocacy, is now BAC's executive director, it said Friday. The group formed in 2022 represents independent mortgage brokers in legislative matters, such as the housing finance industry's push to pass a trigger leads bill.

Sweeney is the former chairman and CEO of the Association of Independent Mortgage Experts, and joined BAC in 2022

"Together, we have created a foundation that I'm eager to continue building upon as a board advisor, bridging the gap between industry perception, political landscapes, and the tenacious broker community," said Sweeney in a press release.

Clark, the group's former co-chair of its state government affairs advocacy council, is the co-owner of, and broker with Firehouse Mortgage in Humble, Texas north of Houston.

BAC co-founder and Chief Advocacy Officer Brendan McKay will remain in his position. He's also the co-owner and senior loan officer of McKay Mortgage in Bethesda, Maryland.

The young industry trade group has been at the forefront of the industry's fight to get a trigger leads bill passed, breaking the news of its shortfall in December. The bill was then axed from the National Defense Authorization Act regarding the national budget.

At the time, BAC blamed credit bureaus for fighting against the legislation, describing the powerful organizations as engaging in other practices described as "price-gouging." It pledged to push for passage of the bill in 2025.
