Home prices continued to increase nationwide, led by gains made in New York State, according to data from Black Knight Financial Services.
The Black Knight Home Price Index for July rose 0.4% month-over-month and 5.3% from 2015 to $266,000. The index now sits just 0.8% away from a new national peak.
At the state level, New York led the country in terms of monthly gains, with a 1.1% increase. Minnesota closely followed at 1%, with Utah coming next at 0.9%. The top 10 was rounded out by Rhode Island, Wisconsin, Idaho, Oregon, Montana, Ohio and Hawaii.
The only state to post a monthly decline was Missouri, where prices fell 0.1%.
Albany, Ore., led all of the country's metropolitan areas in monthly home price appreciation, increasing 1.3%. But the top 10, as compiled by Black Knight, was dominated by six New York cities: Utica, Buffalo, New York, Elmira, Glens Falls and Syracuse. The other metropolitan areas to make the list were Minneapolis, Logan, Utah, and Corvallis, Ore.
